In vain.

With autumn came strange flowers
some were new and some were old
shadows gathered in dusky twilight
as night dimmed sparkle of eye and gold.

Dimmed the face of my beloved
I tried to comfort you, to stay
so kissed your cheeks and kissed your lips
but much remained unkissed that day.

We gathered in our mourning deed
on the altar of dues, with wine and song
we saluted the death, all wise and pure
and saluted the living who did so wrong.

We layed there down to watch the stars
among the leaves that fell that day
the frosty air the flowers killed
but then again, life is that way.

Two stars from heaven fell that night
one for me and one for you
with twisted smile we watched them burn
for wished wishes won’t come true.

The gathering dawn made shadows flee
the peeking sun announced the day
on both our cheeks a single tear
which washed away in falling rain
a symbol of a love in vain

and so we parted ways...
